Amazing Accrington, working in conjunction with Hyndburn Borough Council and Accrington Market, are inviting every primary school in Hyndburn to take part in this year’s Christmas Light Switch On.

The Hyndburn primary school’s ‘Christmas Carols’ will take place from 4.30pm-4.55pm and will be led by Helen Davies, Director of Music at St Christopher’s C.E. High School.

Participating schools will perform three short Christmas songs on the night, as they take centre stage in Accrington Town Centre following live music from Claudia Thompson and ahead of performances from the Ella Shaw Academy.

The songs being performed will be suitable for Year 4 students and above, with music to be sent out to learn the short and very easy tracks once schools confirm their attendance.

Letters have been sent out to head teachers of 40 primary schools in Hyndburn and the surrounding areas by Murray Dawson, chair of event organisers Amazing Accrington.

Hyndburn primary schools looking to get involved in the event, sponsored by Sundown Solutions, North Lancs Training Group (NLTG), Studio Retail Ltd and EG Group, should contact sixthformdirector@st-christophers.org or zahida@scottdawson.co.uk by Friday 12th November.

Helen said: “Bringing all of our local primary schools together in one setting is wonderful as it is, but to see all those happy faces whilst they sing three well known Christmas songs will be a sight to behold.”

Murray commented: “We are determined to put on a community event that Accrington will remember for years to come and involving our borough’s youngsters is a major part of that.

“We are keen for it to be a true family event, so what better way to start it off than with a spectacle of hundreds of primary school children – we can’t thank Helen enough for supporting and offering to lead this section of the night.”

The 2021 Christmas Light Switch On will be initiated by Accrington-born celebrity and actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, following an incredible evening of entertainment headlined by Little Mix tribute band ‘Diva Mix’ and including performances from talented local stars Claudia Thompson, Ella Shaw, the Civic Arts Centre & Theatre, Oswaldtwistle Aladdin Panto, as well as live LED drummers, fire eaters and an appearance from the Accrington Stanley Ladies & Girls team.
