Over 80 schoolchildren from Peel Park Primary School attended a cricket training session at Accrington Cricket Club’s iMEP Arena on Thursday 13th June.

Organised by the cricket club and club sponsors iMEP International Music Event production, the Year 5 students enjoyed an exciting morning of cricket, with six ‘cricket stations’ set up on the iMEP Arena pitch.

Activities included batting basics, ground fielding, catching, bowling basics, hitting the ball straight with a cricket bat and super strike bowling.

Each of the sessions was run by a designated coach from Accrington CC, with additional support provided by teachers from Peel Park Primary School.

Eddy O’Brien, CEO of iMEP, said: “The schoolchildren have had a fantastic morning, with six different stations positioned around the ground, with each station providing a different activity.

“As sponsors, it has been fantastic to see the children having so much fun at what is an amazing community club!”

Jon Hayhurst, Chair of Accrington Cricket Club, said: “We have had an incredible morning here at the iMEP Arena!

“The children have really embraced the session and as a club, we have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming students from Peel Park Primary school. Well done to everyone who took part and we hope to see you back playing in the future!”

Sarah Flynn, Year 5 Teacher at Peel Park Primary School, said: “It has been great to get out and about doing something active and the children really have had a fantastic time.

“It has been wonderful to see the guys giving up their time to come and teach the children the skills and the children have already picked up such a lot from coming today, so thank you very much to Accrington Cricket Club.”

Oliver, from Peel Park Primary School, commented: “I’ve had a fantastic time and I definitely want to come back. My favourite thing was having so much fun here because it is the best place on earth.”
