North Lancs Training Group (NLTG), the Accrington-based training provider, raised a fantastic £10,298.88 for Cancer Research UK at their recent Sportsperson’s Dinner.
Held at The Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Accrington on Friday 4th November, former England footballer and manager, Kevin Keegan OBE, headlined a sensational evening of entertainment which also included top comedian Josh Daniels, a three-course meal and a wide range of auctions and raffles.
Former Liverpool and Newcastle United forward Keegan, who played for England at the 1982 World Cup, told tales from his illustrious career including his trophy-glittered seven-year spell on Merseyside with Liverpool, his time in Germany with Hamburg, as well as his infamous battle with Sir Alex Ferguson, during his time at Newcastle.
Keegan enjoyed an England career spanning 10 years following his debut in 1972 against Wales, with 31 of his 63 international caps coming as captain of the national team. He also spent time managing England between 1999 and 2000.
Following Keegan’s appearance at the Sportsperson’s Dinner, comedian Josh Daniels put in a great performance of his own with an unforgettable set full of fun and laughter including a musical interlude.
The event, which was compered by Andy Ashworth, also featured a silent auction including various hospitality packages, trips and signed football shirts; a tombola and raffle; as well as a live auction including a signed Burnley FC shirt and a signed Rory McIlroy picture.
Sponsorship packages were also available for the event, with sponsors enjoying a personal meet and greet with Keegan, as well as photographs with the two time Ballon d’Or winner, which were printed and framed on the night.
Gareth Lindsay, Managing Director of NLTG, said: “We are overwhelmed by the support from everyone who attended and sponsored our Sportsperson’s Dinner, raising a fantastic amount of money for Cancer Research UK.
“From start to finish the event was a huge success, including the delicious three-course meal and the fantastic entertainment provided by both Kevin Keegan and Josh Daniels.
“Sadly we have all been affected by Cancer in one way or another, and it is events like these which allow Cancer Research UK to continue making giant steps forward in their research. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, sponsored the event and purchased items during the various raffles and auctions.”
