Over 1,000 Year 11 students from schools across Hyndburn attended a special Futures Event at Accrington Stanley’s 1968 Lounge, to be inspired by employers, armed forces, further and higher education providers as they decide on their future pathways.

The event, supported by local education and training providers including North Lancs Training Group (NLTG), Accrington & Rossendale College and Blackburn College, saw businesses and organisations from a wide range of industries come together to showcase what they do and their achievements – and how you can join them.

Employers such as the RAF and the Ministry of Defence joined local companies such as Sundown Solutions, Fagan & Whalley, Accrington Stanley Community Trust, CMAC, Stolle Machinery and many more at the event, which was hosted by Accrington Stanley in their 1968 Lounge for the second year running.

Organised by Amazing Accrington, Year 11 students from St Christophers C of E High School, Mount Carmel RC High School, St Andrews, Oswaldtwistle School, Hyndburn Academy, Rhyddings School, Accrington Academy and The Hollins Technology College attended throughout a very busy day.

#AmazingAccrington also teamed up with Fazila Foods and Refresco, to provide food and drink for the exhibitors.

Warren Eastham, Commercial Director at Accrington Stanley, said: “We are delighted to be hosting this event for the second year running. Every Year 11 student across the borough has been invited to meet up with employers, training, and further education providers. I hope they enjoyed our facilities!”

Richard Jones, Headteacher at St Christophers, said: “This place is abuzz with 200 of our Year 11 pupils finding out from local businesses and education providers what it is that they can do after the age of 16, because these young people want the very best that Accrington, or Hyndburn can offer.”

Kam Kothia OBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire, commented: “This impressive event just proves that Hyndburn is going places, employers engaging with students, and creating opportunities for the future.”
